Looking back at 2022, it’s been our most difficult year yet. We have taken pride in developing low-carb and keto versions of everyday staple foods- bread, pizza, pies, pasta and a large range of ready meals. We have relied on tried and trusted technologies to deliver frozen, chilled and ambient products to tens of thousands of customers throughout the UK. As the year progressed, things became more and more difficult as costs steadily increase, and inflationary pressures are everywhere. None more so than in handling chilled and frozen products. The price of electricity has tripled, and all our frozen storage uses a lot of electricity. The price of dry ice has increased four-fold and we use roughly a kilo for every parcel. Over two years the cost of our thermal boxes has also increased fourfold. All in all, we had nowhere to turn and in September we reluctantly decided that temperature-controlled deliveries were no longer feasible and we are fazing out all frozen products.
This means a fundamental rethink in how we operate our business. We are so very aware that money is now in very short supply and that we must make every effort to reduce the cost of our products and the cost of delivery. The most frequent complaint that we get from you, our customers, is that our prices are too high! We are working on a number of aspects of the supply chain with a view to reducing costs but more than ever before we are looking at improving our products to deliver the nutrition that you deserve using ingredients that we can source at everyday prices.Â
We are very excited to tell you about a major development in our ready meal technology- we will soon be able to supply clean keto-compatible ready meals that do not need temperature-controlled storage or delivery and can thrive at an ambient temperature of up to 35° for at least a year! This means no need for expensive refrigeration and the ready meals can be delivered by the cheapest 48-hour delivery plan- (£3.99 instead of £9.95). All you need for a super convenient meal will be two minutes in a microwave oven or bring to a boil a pan of hot water…
The other big news is that our dried pasta products are ready to go. The pasta is super low carb (less than 1g of carb per 100g) and a little goes a long way. The pasta is made with our pasta flour mixed with eggs and is super nutritious and made from ingredients that contain no gluten. The dried pasta will soon be followed by a range of low-carb pasta sauces which is a collaboration with a very well-known Italian Pasta Chef…
